BC557 is a semiconductor device for amplifying or switching electronic signals and electrical energy. It is made of semiconductor material and typically has at least three terminals for connecting to external circuitry. The voltage or current applied to one pair of terminals of a transistor controls the current flowing through another pair of terminals. The controlled (output) power can be greater than the controlled (input) power so that the transistor can amplify the signal. Some transistors are now packaged individually, but many more are being integrated into integrated circuits.
